Anu Behari speaks with Priya Mohanty of “Queen”
Listen to Anu Behari, Eye on India’s founder and president, and actress Priya Mohanty’s great discussion about the play “Queen,” Priya’s acting, diaspora life, and breaking stereotypes at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater.
Priya Mohanty is currently playing Sanam Shah in “Queen.” Playwright Madhuri Shekar and director Joanie Schltz are behind this intelligent play. What attracted Anu Behari to “Queen” is that it addresses the issue of diversity – race, gender and opinions but not central issues. The Indian character is not defined by her Indian identity, she just happens to be from India. In some ways she represents the contemporary Indian young woman who is unafraid and who does not need validation to be herself. Behari was left with a feeling of great respect for the main characters resilience that shines through.
This thoughtful production only runs until May 14th, so make plans to see the performance now. See http://victorygardens.org/our-season/queen/ for more information and to purchase your tickets.
