About Eye on India, 6th Annual Gala
“On behalf of my family, I would like to say, “Thank You” for the magical evening! Our senses were immersed in such a wonderful Indian experience. Rupa soaked in the smells and tastes of the various foods and loved listening to the music and dancers. She had a fabulous time playing the piano for your guests and felt so appreciated and fulfilled. Thank you for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” – Paula Sprecher
(Paula is the mother of Rupa Elizabeth Sprecher a ChiArts freshman. Rupa is a 15-year old accomplished pianist. At the age of 7, Rupa moved to the US from the Jyothi Seva Home and School for Blind Children in Bengaluru, India.)
The 6th Eye on India Festival is approaching fast. As we prepare, we took a moment to celebrate our successes and thank our Festival Sponsors, Patrons and Friends during an evening of entertainment, festive cuisine and good conversation. The unstinting support and generosity of the Consulate General of India, Chicago, individual donors, foundations and corporate sponsors the unique programming of eminent musicians, artists and traditions from India has been made possible over the last five years.
This year we honored Dr. Ralph Nicholas and Marta Nicholas with The Chicago — India Cultural Connection Award, experienced unique performances from Natya Dance Theatre and Pianist Rupa Elizabeth Sprecher, a ChiArts Freshman, and we witnessed the much awaited award presentation to the winning student of the Sari Project. The winning student received a cash prize, presented by Bhavesh Patel of Sahil.
The 2016 Gala provided us with a unique opportunity to share the programs and initiatives that we have been committed to building throughout this past year. Those initiatives include but are not limited to: artist residencies, performances, engagement and collaboration opportunities within the Chicago community, and an increase in our community workshops and outreach programs with local schools and art organizations. We are thrilled to announce 4 new partners in 2016: the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, The Poetry Foundation, ChiArts – the Chicago High School for the Arts, and the Chicago Public Library.
Thank you to those who attended and continue to provide their support for Eye on India, our Artists and our community. We look forward to seeing you at this year’ 6th Eye on India Festival, September 15 — October 2.
